Following the release of what many consider a teaser video for a new device, HTC has been the subject of rumors suggesting that the company is gearing up to unveil the next VR/mixed reality headset in its successful Vive series.
The video below does not itself confirm that a new headset is in the works, let alone any specific information about a new device. It contains only a teaser with the text: "Soon, our innovation will offer you a new kind of power. Prepare to pioneer the next reality.", along with photos of the current HTC headsets but what seems to end with the outline of a new VR glasses!
It is likely that HTC will come up with the new headset to compete with Apple and Meta's recent headsets: The Vision Pro and the Quest 3.
Brad Lynch, manager of Extended Reality (XR), claimed to have seen leaked material about an upcoming HTC headset, stating that the design is similar to that of the Vive Focus 3 that the company released in 2021.
Lynch has leaked information that the new device would have the same screens and optics as the Vive Focus 3, although HTC has not confirmed or commented on this information. But according to Lynch, it will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 technology, currently found in HTC's Vive XR Elite headset released in 2023.
According to purported information, the new device would have two cameras with depth sensors, integrated eye tracking and four gigabytes more RAM than the Vive Focus 3's XR2 CPU.
If these specifications turn out to be true, it is suggested that the next HTC headset, like the Vive Focus 3, will be more suitable for professional and business use than for personal use.
If and when HTC confirms details of a new headset, we will come out with an update.
