Meta revealed that it is currently releasing the v68 software update for the Quest, which includes experimental access to Meta AI, a new utility app focused on home renovation and also some speed improvements. This comes after Meta's major v67 multitasking release earlier this month.
Previously exclusive to Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses, Meta AI allows you to perform typical AI voice chat functions via Bing. In addition, it uses the camera sensors on the headset so you can ask questions about objects it detects. It will initially be available only in English in the U.S. and Canada and later verscine worldwide.
A new tool called Layout, which helps users visualize real objects in their physical space, is another improvement in v68. As part of Meta's efforts to help consumers furnish their homes more easily and reduce store visits, the company expects you to take steps such as measuring your space for furniture, making sure objects are level and determining how goods fit in your space.
You can move and rotate anything in your home with the many virtual furniture pieces the company offers, such as beds, sofas, shelves, TVs and chairs.
In addition, the Quest 3 now features Content Adaptive Brightness Control, which enhances the viewing experience by lowering contrast in scenarios with lower light levels. This feature can be enabled through Experimental in Settings.
Version v68 also brings improved speed, such as faster program downloads and a new "Downloads" menu for easier organization. To improve graphics performance in OpenXR apps and produce smoother, less stuttering images, a new frame timing algorithm has also been added.
The update also adds a nice feature that lets you download and manage multiple games at once from a new tab called "Downloads" in your library. In addition to additional sound level balancing capabilities, Meta also offers the option to pair Touch controllers directly from the headset (unlike the recently renamed Meta Horizon app).
v68, like all Quest software upgrades, is released in phases. You can download available updates manually or use the procedure below to check what software version you currently have:
